Caring for Carved Wood Furniture
Carved wood furniture needs gentle care because detail, finish, and natural wood movement all matter. A regular maintenance routine can preserve the look of a piece and reduce the need for heavy restoration later.
Dust with care
Use a soft cloth or a gentle brush to remove dust from carved areas. Avoid forcing cloth into delicate details, because repeated pressure can damage fine edges or loosen older finishes.
Control sunlight and humidity
Direct sunlight can fade finishes and fabrics. Very dry or very humid rooms can also affect wood movement. Keeping furniture away from strong heat sources and maintaining stable indoor conditions helps protect both the frame and the surface.
Clean finishes gently
Before using any cleaner, test a small hidden area or ask a restoration professional. Many antique-style finishes are layered, painted, gilded, or hand-polished, so aggressive products can remove character instead of improving the piece.
Plan repairs early
Loose joints, missing trim, unstable legs, or damaged upholstery should be addressed early. Small repairs are usually easier to manage than delayed structural problems.
